Welcome back to another One Piece chapter review. This week we have an incredible chapter that opens back up with Gaban and Shanks. We are back to their previous conversation in the hot tub and Gaban is informing Shanks about ACE! Shanks is shocked and claims that Ace is like his little brother. I love seeing this lore, but where the hell were these two when my man ace was being killed. I try not to doubt Oda and knowing him there will be a reason in the future why Raleigh and Gaban did not help save him. We quickly move back to the castle where Harald is starting to lose his mind.
Harald is standing over a guard that he told to tie him up and it appears that Harald struck him down. Imu is clearly starting to gain the upper hand on his mind, but he is not experiencing a "Domi Reversi" like Rocks. Harald realizes it is hopeless and tells his guards to kill him quickly. I have my problems with Harald and how he got in this situation, but I will say it takes guts to own up to them as quickly as he is and accept death as the consequence. His guards honor the request, and all move in to impale Harald revealing the scene that Loki and Jarul saw in the past.
Loki and Jarul enter the castle and are beyond confused to see all of the Guards impaling Harald. There is not much time to process this as Harald regenerates and sends all of these Giants!! flying. Loki and Jarul look completely terrified and why wouldn't they!! Harald was able to fight Rocks 1 on 1 before he signed this pact and had immortality. Now that he is to our knowledge immortal it makes me wonder where he stands in strength all time in One Piece. Haralds body is moving on its own, but in his mind, he is wondering how he can find a way to die. This leads us back to Shanks and Gaban where we get more information on the pact with IMU.
Shanks is telling Gaban how he and Harald made the Shallow covenant with IMU. This covenant meant that IMU could control them as long as they were in the Holy Land. Shanks was able to tell Harald the truth about him when they were away from the Holy Land. How this did not raise a few red flags for Harald is another question entirely. Shanks goes on and tells Gaban that Harald wanted to join the Holy Knights which would mean signing the next level of the pact with IMU. Signing this pact means that IMU can control you from any place in the world and gives the individual immortality like we have seen a few times now. Just as shanks says he doesn't want Harald to do this we see a massive amount of Haki from the castle.
Back at the castle Jarul and Loki have officially engaged Harald in combat. Loki is trying to figure out what has happened to him and how he is not dead from his stab wounds. Jarul and Loki quickly pin Harald to the ground where he explains how he was tricked by the World Government and Loki needs to kill him before he loses his mind. Harald tells Loki to eat the treasured devil fruit of Elbaph seemingly because it will be the only way to defeat him. I don't know what this devil fruit is but I'm am losing my patience in waiting. Nika is always mentioned but we know that Luffy has this fruit in the future, so it has to be different. Harald is taken over once more and sends everyone flying once more.
Harald is killing all of the guards and Loki is running away complaining about having to eat this devil fruit. Jarul is telling him to hurry and we see the long-awaited incident. Jarul stabs Harald through the back only for him to turn around and ram his sword through Jaruls head. I could not help but laugh at this scene...right when One Piece starts getting serious Oda always finds away to release some of the tension. Shanks and Gaban arrive checking on Jarul only for him to say the helmet saved him even though the sword is all the way through his head lol. Loki finally reaches the room where the devil fruit sits, but before he can eat it Ragnir speaks and launches at him ending the chapter!
Elbaph continues to be one of my favorite arcs this chapter as we get so much new information. This chapter finally starts the real story of how Harald dies and so far it is not disappointing. Oda claims he wants to speed up his pacing of One Piece and I can really feel that lately with how much information we are receiving. This chapter ends on a cliff hanger, and we are going to have to wait extra time because One Piece is entering a break week. I will be non-patiently waiting for the next chapter and cannot wait to finish up this flashback in the next few chapters. If you are loving this flashback as much as me let me know your favorite parts in the comments and any predictions, you have for the next chapter.
